I²S (Inter-IC Sound), pronounced eye-squared-ess, is an electrical serial bus interface standard used for connecting digital audio devices together. It is used to communicate PCM audio data between integrated circuits in an electronic device. The I²S bus separates clock and serial data signals, resulting in simpler receivers than those required for asynchronous communications systems that.

COVID-19 Information
Wave Transit is committed to safe service and is taking active measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 for our customers and staff. Here’s some of what we’re doing to maintain a safe environment: enhanced sanitation, signage for social distancing, hand sanitizer stations on all vehicles, and the requirement of face coverings for customers and staff on vehicles, at bus stops, and at transfer stations. Wave Transit Pledges Participation in American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) Health and Safety Commitments Program
Wave Transit announced on January 5, 2021 that it has joined the American Public Transportation Association’s Health and Safety Commitments Program, along with over 150 other public transit agencies nationwide. The program is the public transportation industry’s overarching pledge to passengers that public transit systems across the country are taking the necessary measures to operate safely as the nation recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Authority’s pledge is a demonstration that the health and safety of customers and employees continues to remain of highest priority.
“Being a participant of APTA’s Health and Safety Commitments Program is just one way we are championing this commitment. A strategic plan has long been established for Wave Transit, including sanitizing and disinfecting processes, driver barrier protections, and mandatory mask adoption. We will continue to reassess and revise our plan as needed, utilizing CDC recommendations and the Governor’s orders as its guiding framework. Wave is dedicated to staying actively engaged to adapt quickly as changes occur to uphold our pledge” stated Wave Transit’s new Executive Director, Marie Parker. “Unquestionably, our number one priority is to provide our employees with a safe and healthy workplace, while providing our customers with a safe ride to their destination.”
Wave Transit Network Redesign Proposal
In January 2020, New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington announced that they will work collaboratively towards a new interlocal agreement for Wave Transit which will take effect on July 1, 2021. In February 2020, a revised Board of Directors, comprised of staff from the county, city and Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, was appointed as the governing body to oversee revisions brought forth under this next next chapter.
In an effort to identify solutions to the funding challenges faced by Wave Transit, New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington engaged an outside transportation consultant, TransPro Consulting, to conduct a diagnostic assessment for cost saving opportunities and ultimately, design a transportation network that meets the needs of a growing community while providing long-term financial stability.
In September 2020, a finalized proposal of a revised system network was presented to Wave Transit’s Board of Directors for review and consideration. On October 22, 2020, the revised network was approved as the framework for public transportation services offered by Wave Transit. An on-demand service delivery model, as referenced in the proposal, was also approved. The revised network is slated for implemntation July 2021.
Details regarding route modifications, project timeline and opportunities for public input will be provided in the coming weeks as we move through the redesign process.

Give Input on Transportation Needs of People with Disabilities and Older Adults
Wave Transit is seeking public input for our Locally Coordinated Transportation Plan (LCP) in order to: identify the transportation needs of people with disabilities and individuals age 65 and older in the Wilmington Metro Area, identify strategies for meeting those local needs, and prioritize transportation services for funding and implementation. The results of a survey, along with input collected through a Virtual Town Hall, held on January 14, 2021, and focus groups, will be included in the 2021 LCP and will inform future transportation programing and funding decisions.
Community Grant Opportunity
Wave Transit is currently accepting applications for a community transportation grant. This annual opportunity is offered in order to remove barriers to transportation, and increase mobility options for people with disabilities and older adults in our community. Community Partnership Spotlight
We are proud to partner with Trey Sharpe and former NFL football player Nick Becton, co-founders of PCCS Medical. PCCS Medical, in addition to donations of medical equipment to our county and housing for medical workers, has donated 4,600 bars of soap to Wave Transit customers to help stop the spread of COVID-19! Free soap was available on board our vehicles in April, and all 4,600 bars of soap have now been distributed. Frequent hand washing with soap and water helps stop the spread of COVID-19 and saves lives. Learn more about PCCS and their assistance to the community HERE.

Notice of Public Meeting
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 12:00 pm EDT. Please make note of revision in meeting time. The meeting time has been revised to 12:00 pm, from the standing meeting time of 12:30 pm.

The meeting will be held virtually. Attendees can access the meeting through a video interface or by audio. The meeting agenda and access credentials will be provided in advance of the meeting.
