I'd like to upgrade my RAM in my laptop. I am currently at 1 GB. The memory I have in right now is: 512 MB PC2-5300 module/Y9525 (2 sticks); N-core duo 2 duo 1.66 ghz T5500 2MB 667 MHZ processor; Intel 945 PM + ICH 7 Chipset; Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit operating system.
I have two dedicated SO-DIMM slots for dual-channel DDR2 memory. My specs state that due to chipset limitations, the system may not be able to use the full RAM capacity that is installed.
I was looking at this memory: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=4350448&sku=C19-4602&srkey=c19-4602
I called them to confirm what I needed. The salesman that I spoke with that told me that my computer's memory that is currently installed is PC2-5300 and in order to use the new memory: Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 667 MHz SODIMM PC5400 Dual Channel Laptop Memory Kit - 200 Pin 4096MB (2 x 2048MB) Cas Latency 5, 1.8V, that I would have to purchase additional optimization software: CA PC Pitstop Optimize 2.0 5-Users. I am having a hard time believing that. He was pressuring me to order while on the phone. I'm very computer literate, but just getting into all the technical aspects and learning everyday.
I need some opinions.
Thanks!
